The 30-second check: does your device support eSIM?
Before scanning any list, ask the phone itself. This is the only answer that accounts for your exact region and carrier variant:
- 1
Dial *#06#
Open the dialer and type *#06#. If a 32-digit EID appears next to the IMEI, your phone has eSIM hardware.
- 2
Check Settings
iPhone: Settings › General › About, look for an EID. Android: Settings › Network & internet › SIMs › Add eSIM.
- 3
Confirm it's unlocked
A carrier-locked phone may have eSIM hardware but block third-party eSIMs. An unlocked device works with any provider.
If there's no EID, the device has no eSIM hardware and can't use one — no app or setting can add it. If the EID is there, you're good to go.
eSIM compatibility by brand
The tables below reflect manufacturer documentation and major eSIM-provider lists as of July 2026. Read the notes carefully — a "Depends on version" row means the model exists in both eSIM and non-eSIM variants depending on where it was sold.
Apple iPhone
Every iPhone from the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR (2018) onward supports eSIM — with important exceptions tied to where the phone was bought.

| iPhone XS / XS Max / XR | Depends on version | First eSIM-capable iPhones. Mainland-China variants shipped with dual physical SIM and no eSIM. |
| iPhone models bought in mainland China | Depends on version | Most China-market iPhones ship dual nano-SIM with no eSIM. As of 2026 only the iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM in mainland China. |
| iPhone models bought in Hong Kong / Macao | Depends on version | Many HK/Macao iPhones use dual physical SIM and lack eSIM. Known exceptions that DO have eSIM include the iPhone 12 mini, 13 mini, SE (2020) and XS. |
| iPhone X, iPhone 8 and earlier | Not supported | Pre-2018 iPhones have no eSIM hardware. |
Apple iPad
eSIM works only on Wi-Fi + Cellular iPads — never the Wi-Fi-only versions. Broadly supported from the 2018 iPad Pro onward.
| Model | eSIM | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| iPad Pro 11" / 12.9" (2018) and later | Supported | Wi-Fi + Cellular models only. |

| Wi-Fi-only iPads (any model) | Not supported | No cellular modem, so no eSIM. eSIM on iPad is also not offered in mainland China. |
Google Pixel
Every Pixel from the Pixel 4 (2019) onward supports eSIM. The Pixel 2, 3 and 3a work only on certain carriers or regions.
| Model | eSIM | Notes |

| Pixel 3a / 3a XL | Depends on version | Not eSIM-compatible on Verizon, or if bought in Japan or Southeast Asia. |
| Pixel 2 / 2 XL | Depends on version | eSIM only works on Google Fi. |
Samsung Galaxy
The Galaxy S20 (2020) and later mainstream flagships support eSIM. The biggest gotcha is the US Galaxy S20, which does not.
| Model | eSIM | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 / S24 / S23 / S22 / S21 series | Supported | — |
| Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra | Depends on version | US-sold Galaxy S20 does NOT support eSIM, despite eSIM hardware in international variants. S21 and later US models are fine. |
| Galaxy S20 FE / S21 FE | Depends on version | eSIM on the FE editions depends on the region and carrier variant. |
| Galaxy Note 20 / Note 20 Ultra | Supported | Supported in most regions. |
| Galaxy Z Fold 2 and later | Supported | — |
| Galaxy Z Flip / Z Flip 3 and later | Supported | — |
| Galaxy A-series (A35, A54, A55 and select others) | Depends on version | eSIM is not universal across the A-series — it depends on the exact model number and country of purchase. |
Other Android flagships
A growing list of premium Android phones ship with eSIM. As always, carrier-locked and region-specific variants can differ — check for an EID.
| Model | eSIM | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Motorola Razr (2022+), Edge 40/50, Razr+ / Ultra | Supported | — |
| OnePlus 11 / 12 / 13 and Open | Depends on version | eSIM support varies by region; some early/Asian variants lack it. |
| Sony Xperia 1 IV/V, 5 IV/V, 10 IV/V and later | Supported | — |
| Oppo Find X3 Pro / X5 / X6 / X8 series | Depends on version | Depends on region; not all markets enable eSIM. |
| Huawei P40 / P50 / Mate 40 (select variants) | Depends on version | eSIM availability is limited and region-dependent. |
| Nothing Phone (2) / (2a) / (3) | Supported | — |
| Rakuten, Fairphone 4/5, Honor Magic series | Depends on version | Supported on some but not all regional variants. |
Device support changes as manufacturers ship new models and firmware, and regional variants differ. Treat this as a guide, not a guarantee — always confirm with *#06# on your specific handset.
The exceptions that trip people up
Nearly every "my phone won't take an eSIM" case comes down to one of these:
- Mainland-China iPhones. Most ship with two physical SIM slots and no eSIM. As of 2026 only the iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM in mainland China.
- US Galaxy S20. It has no eSIM, even though the international S20 does. Samsung fixed this from the S21 onward.
- Hong Kong / Macao iPhones. Many use dual physical SIM; only a few models (12 mini, 13 mini, SE 2020, XS) have eSIM there.
- Early Pixels (2, 3, 3a). eSIM is locked to specific carriers or regions — e.g. Pixel 3a on Verizon has no eSIM.
- Carrier-locked phones. The hardware may support eSIM, but a locked device can refuse a third-party eSIM until it's unlocked.
